Our Purpose, Our People, Our Community
Since 2012, Deaf Services Lanarkshire has stood alongside the Deaf community - delivering services, building connections and advocating for true inclusion.
About Deaf Services Lanarkshire
Deaf Services Lanarkshire is a leading organisation and charity dedicated to supporting Deaf individuals and their families throughout Lanarkshire. Our mission is to remove barriers, promote equal access and empower the Deaf community through inclusive services that reflect lived experience.
Founded in February 2011 by Liz and Eddie McLuskey, we became a registered charity in 2012. We've grown from a British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreting service into a recognised hub for Deaf support and accredited BSL education. Eddie's background in education sparked the launch of our QS recognised BSL courses, opening a new pathway for learning, communication and connection.
Today, we remain proudly led by the Deaf community, for the Deaf Community. Everything we do - from interpreting, translation and advocacy to training and support - is grounded in shared values, mutual respect and the goal of building a more accessible, inclusive society.
Our Board
DSL is governed by a voluntary Board who bring a wide range of skills and lived experience to steer the organisation's direction.

June Greening
Interim Chair
June has served on the DSL Board for the past two years, supporting good governance, strategic planning, and decision-making. With a background in Accounting and Business Management, and as a Deaf person herself, she brings both professional knowledge and lived experience, and is passionate about ensuring accessibility, inclusion, and equality remain at the heart of everything DSL does.

Edward McLuskey
Secretary
Eddie is a co-founder of Deaf Services Lanarkshire, established alongside his wife, Elizabeth McLuskey. He brings a wealth of experience from a varied career spanning engineering, military service, electrical trades, education, and management. With a long-standing commitment to improving access and inclusion for Deaf people, his broad professional background provides valuable knowledge and insight in his role as Secretary of the Board.

William Tague
Board Member
William first came to DSL seeking a certified BSL course after his son was born profoundly deaf, and learning BSL transformed their ability to communicate. Having seen the group's excellent work, he was pleased to join the board. With 40 years as a Veterinary Surgeon and 32 years running his own practice, the business skills he gained will help support DSL going forward.

Gillian Summers
Board Member
Gillian is a Deaf woman with a strong understanding of Deaf culture and the Deaf community, and brings a range of skills and valuable lived experience to the Board. With a background that includes working for British Deaf News and qualifications in Graphic Design and IT, she is passionate about supporting Deaf Services Lanarkshire and is keen to contribute, learn, and help shape the organisation's future.
